How do I clean my white Converse All Star Shoes?

How do I clean the white rubber part on my shoes? I don't particularly trust the washing machine 'cause I'll afraid the machine will mess it up and I also don't like the idea of dirty stuff like my shoes in my machine in the first place.

How do I clean my white Converse All Star Shoes?
I got a toothbrush and scrubbed mine with bleach .. Clean and white as new.

Do it outside, where the fumes don't kill people.
Reply:Soft scrub or greased lightening and a nylon scrub pad.
Reply:I put my Converse's in the washing machine and it cleans them perfectly - I've done all colours - red, cream and white at 40 degrees with no spin. If it's not ok to put dirty shoes in the machine, them would you want to put dirty underwear in there?
Reply:Use Comet and a little bit of water to form a paste. Use a toothbrush with the comet mixture to clean your shoes, rinse with a wet cloth.
Reply:murphy's oil soap
