How can I clean my nonwhite shoes?

I have pink and brown Keds Champions that recently got mud ALL over them. I scraped the large parts of mud off, but I'm afraid of rubbing the rest in, and I don't want to use any other method until I'm sure it won't damage the shoe. Any suggestions?

Take an old toothbrush, dip it in makeup remover (or just water if you are afraid that might take the color out of your shoes) and scrub away! I did the same think with my white/blue Keds.
Reply:wash it with oil! Then cover it with whitepaper.
