Why do the rubber part of Converse sneakers become shiny?

You know the rubber part at the top of Converse shoes, where the toes are? Why do those turn shiny over time?

I'm witnessing this happening to my own Converse shoes, and I've noticed it in other people's Converse shoes as well.

I'm just curious.

Thanks!

Why do the rubber part of Converse sneakers become shiny?
I think its just general wear on the shoes...I have 4 pairs of Converse and after they get past the scuff stage, they become shiny like that...my friends have too...although I have one friend that obsessively polishes her Converse, so it might just be because of that, but I think its just general wear...

Hope this helps!
